Maggiano’s Handcrafted Classic Cocktail, the Aviation, was created in the early 1900s. An Aviation is made with gin, maraschino liqueur, Crème de Violette – which gives the cocktail it’s pale sky-blue color – and lemon and is served straight up in a cocktail glass. Because of the scarceness of Crème de Violette in the 1930s, bartenders then and today occasionally omit the violet liqueur, calling for a mixture of gin, lemon juice and a couple dashes of maraschino. This is the original recipe from our bar and lounge to yours!

Maggiano's Handcrafted Classic Cocktail Aviation

2 oz Gin – we suggest Tanqueray
½ oz Fresh squeezed lemon juice
¼ oz Luxardo Maraschino
½ oz Crème de Violette
Lemon slice

Combine gin, lemon juice, maraschino, and crème de violette in shaker, then add ice (3/4 full).
Shake for 30 seconds and strain into chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with 1/8 inch thick lemon slice and enjoy!
