This Friday, August 30th, is National Cabernet Day, and while we love relaxing with a nice glass of Cabernet Sauvignon after a day’s work, we also love getting a little creative!  What could be more fun, creative, and refreshing for a late summer’s day than a Blackberry and Cabernet Caipirinha?

Combining Cabernet with a Caipirinha- Brazil’s national cocktail- creates a culturally diverse and flavorful cocktail that pairs well with everything from salad to seafood and even makes a tasty dessert.

Maggianos Celebrates National Cabernet Day

Serves 4-6
1 cup blackberries
2 medium limes, quartered
6 oz Cachaça (a sugarcane-derived spirit found at most liquor stores)
2 oz Cabernet Sauvignon
1 ½ oz freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 3 medium limes)
2 oz freshly squeezed orange juice (from about 1/2 medium orange)
4 oz simple syrup
2 oz cranberry juice
Lime and orange wheels, for garnish

Combine the blackberries and quartered limes in a large pitcher and muddle until well crushed. Add the cachaça, Cabernet, lime juice, orange juice, simple syrup, cranberry juice, and some ice and stir to chill thoroughly. Garnish with lime and orange wheels and serve.
